Research Group
World Wide Web Consortium
Our vision for the Web [1] involves participation, sharing knowledge, and thereby building trust on a global scale. Our goals [2] include making social benefits of the web available to all people on any device., whatever their hardware, software, network infrastructure, native language, culture, geographical location, or physical or mental ability . With the Open Web Platform [3], the W3C has promoted the Web as a full-fledged programming environment. Web apps can be created within the browser or outside of it, accessible across all devices—smartphones, laptops, tablets, desktops, autos—and others not yet invented. We also bolster the Web as a global repository of data and services. We recognize that with the Web's growing uses comes the importance of security and trust to support complex interactions among parties around the world.
