Researchers Seek to Understand How the Brain Sees

CSAIL Professor Polina Golland is attempting to decipher the way in which the brain responds to different types of visual objects. Current efforts to tackle the problem are based on the assumption that the areas of the brain which recognize various types of objects are in the same place in every person. This assumption, however, falls apart in the case of disparate locations from one person’s brain to the next. Golland’s work uses technology known as functional MRI, or fMRI, to plot a computational method that allows for a modicum of locational variation between individuals. To read more, click here.
