Devadas, the Edwin Sibley Webster Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, was selected to received the 2014 IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award, which IEEE Computer Society President Dejan Milojicic said is given for "outstanding and innovative contributions to the fields of computer and information science and engineering or computer technology."
During his more than 25 years at MIT, Devadas has pioneered work in a number of areas in computer-aided design (CAD), security and computer architecture. A 2007 paper of his led to the development of a low-cost mechanism for authentication of silicon chips, which formed the basis of Verayo, a data security company he co-founded. Last year he developed a new hardware design that makes data encryption more secure by disguising cloud servers' memory-access patterns. He is a member of CSAIL's Computation Structures Group.
Devadas is one of five honorees to receive the award in 2014. The IEEE will present the award at a ceremony in June in Seattle.
