Popular Science Spotlights Erik Demaine

Popular Science featured the work of CSAIL Principal Investigator and Professor Erik Demaine this month in an article called, “The Genius Who Played for a Living.” From his hiring as MIT’s youngest professor to his work with paper folding and programmable matter, the article spotlights the motivation and inspiration for all of Demaine’s work.

“It would be easy to attribute his success to the mere fact of genius, but that would overlook the most important aspect of his work. Instead of concerning himself with applications or even defining a specialized area of research, Demaine chooses projects based purely on his curiosity, regardless of where they may lead. Where others seek answers, Demaine looks for questions,” writes Daniel Engber of Demaine’s work.
