Family Weekend is a time for MIT families to discover MIT and all that the Institute has to offer.
This years Family Weekend took place October 14-16, 2005. Each year Family Weekend provides families the opportunity to interact with faculty and administrators to experience MIT culture first hand. In 2004 the event brought 696 families and 2,186 people to campus.
The Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL participated in the weekend by giving three family tours led by community Volunteer Tour Leaders Harold Fox, Jennifer Grygiel and Bryan Adams. Tours lasted 1 hour and were held in Building 32. the Stata Center.
As the Family Weekend brochure explained: CSAIL, the largest laboratory at MIT was formed on July 1, 2003 by the merger of the former Lab for Computer Science and the Artificial Intelligence Lab. The research of the lab is organized into four groupings:
- Architecture, Systems and Networks covers all aspects of the building of both hardware and software computational systems.
- Theory looks at the fundamental mathematical underpinnings of all aspects of computer science and artificial intelligence.
- Language, Learning, Vision and Graphics includes work on things that all people manage to do efortlessly.
- Physical, Biological, and Computational Systems covers works from robotics, to molecular biology, to semantic systems, to computational models of politics.
