Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an emerging technology deployed in global financial services industry with increasing scope, scale and complexity. In response, corresponding laws, regulations and industry best-practices have been proposed around the world to regulate this emerging risk area. Increasing public, legal and regulatory scrutiny on the proliferation of AI systems in our society, including their positive and negative impacts, demands that private-sector organizations, such as financial institutions, implement responsible and trustworthy governance of emerging technology and risks posed by a wide variety of AI systems.

In this virtual presentation, I will be referring to “AI systems” broadly to provide an overview of how AI technologies/techniques are generally understood and regulated in different jurisdictions. I will mostly focus on legal developments and will refer broadly to industry regulations, standards and best practices in AI governance.
