CSAIL Principal Research Scientist Daniel Weitzner has been named to the 2012 Newsweek Daily Beast Digital Power Index. Weitzner was honored for his work as Deputy Chief Technology Officer for the White House from 2011 through 2012, in particular for his work with online privacy.
“A little more than a year into his current job at the White House, Weitzner is best known as one of the most prominent spokespersons for the Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights,” wrote Newsweek and the Daily Beast of Weitzner’s work.
The Newsweek Daily Beast Digital Power Index honors the 100 most significant players in the rapidly-expanding digital universe.
Weitzner is the director and co-founder of the MIT CSAIL Decentralized Information Group. His group studies the relationship between network architecture and public policy, and develops new Web architectures to meet policy challenges such as privacy and intellectual property rights. He teaches Internet public policy in MIT’s Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department.
