CSAIL Style Guide
CSAIL style guide PDF document. Please read!
All of the following logos have colors set as CMYK values. Different printers will produce an astonishing array of different color results for the same CMYK color value. In the full color logo the CSAIL orange is a dark orange with a brown tint. The grey is a mid-level grey. We expect some variation of these colors on different printers but if your logo is looking very different (red for example) you may want to color calibrate your printer or try a different one. Logos are available as full (with the entire lab name), type only (has the CSAIL letters), and mark only (just the image of the building). The official logo is the full logo and that is the one we recommend using whenever possible. We've provided the others in order to accommodate different situations that come up graphically. If you must use the mark only logo be sure that the lab name appears prominently on the page. If you are using a professional printer and are going to print in Pantone Color. The pantone colors for the logo are listed in the style guide. We have pantone logos available. To obtain one email firstname.lastname@example.org If you would like to create a gif for web use: The suggested web safe colors for the logo are listed in the style guide. Our recommendation is to resize one of the vector logos provided to the appropriate size, change the color, and export it as a gif. Why shouldn't I just borrow the .gif off of the CSAIL web site? 1) The gif is done in the web safe color palate. It is good for the web but it is not the color that was designed for use on a printer. 2) Gif images do not resize well. Your image may come out distorted or pixilated. If you need to resize the image, you should use one of the vector image formats.

Letterhead Templates - Latex
latex-letterhead.zip - The Latex file is set up to run in both pdflatex and latex+dvips. It contains an option to have the return address appear in the upper left hand corner or on the bottom (as in the official printed CSAIL letterhead).
Letterhead Templates - Microsoft Word
To edit the footer of the Word template use the Header and Footer command in the view menu. Templates marked "personalize" have space in the footer for office number, phone number, and fax number. The footers have random characters as placeholders for the information and need to be edited before use. Templates are available with and without a watermark image of the logo in the body of the document. Testing was done on building printers to pick an appropriate level of darkness for the watermark. However, due the wide variety of printers we use, the watermark may print too light, or too dark to be useful to you. If you are going to be sending the letterhead electronically and expect the recipient to print the document on an unknown printer please keep this in mind.
