MIT Numerically-Controlled Milling Machine Project (NCMM) (1949)

Starting with this revolutionary innovation in automation, the USAF Air Materiel Command (AMC) sponsored Servomechanisms Laboratory (Servo Lab) / Electronic Systems Laboratory (ESL) work through 1970.

Beginning mid-1956, D.T.Ross's Computer Applications Group restarted NC work with the AMC-sponsored MIT APT Project and then the MIT CAD Project, including AED software technology; ME Dept.'s Design Group; and graphics hardware and software (all also with in-kind Project MAC support for the 1963-70 period).

From 1964, J.E.Ward headed ESL's Display Group, and also closed out the AMC/MIT work in 1970.
