Silicon.com has chosen World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee as its number one Agenda Setter in 2008. Berners-Lee is director of the World Wide Web Consortium, which works to develop standards, software, and specifications to contribute to greater web safety, uniformity and usability.
On September 14th, a new organization called the World Wide Web Foundation was unveiled. Its goal is to bring technology throughout the world as a connector of humanity, primarily by way of research, technological development and web application for underserved communities. The ranking cites both of these initiatives in its finding.
It goes on to enumerate the many other ways in which Berners-Lee has advanced the state of the art in technology, and will continue to do so in years to come. Professor Berners-Lee is currently heading a W3C Plenary on challenges for future web experts. For the silicon.com ranking, click here; Sir Berners-Lee’s personal website can be found here.
