Agarwal Talks edX, Online Learning on ‘The Colbert Report’
August 5, 2013
Professor Anant Agarwal appeared on the July 24 edition of The Colbert Report, a satirical late-night comedy show hosted by comedian Stephen Colbert. Agarwal, a former director of CSAIL, is the president of edX, the not-for-profit online learning enterprise founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
During his appearance on the show, Agarwal discussed the opportunities provided by online education.
“Education is our cause. It’s really important that people around the world have access to a great education much like the air we breathe,” said Agarwal of the importance of free online learning enterprises like edX.
“We’re giving away education because this is going to be good for the world. An educated world is a better world for everybody. Our campuses are going to get better. Online learning is like a rising tide that is going to lift all boats, on campus or elsewhere.”
