Between Seeing and Doing: Neural Computation of a Decision in Parietal and Prefrontal Cortex Speaker: Michael N. Shadlen , Howard Hughes Medical Institute & Regional Primate Research Center, University of Washington, Seattl Dr. Shadlen will describe experimental and theoretical results that lend insight into the neural basis of decision-making. Neural recordings were obtained from animals trained to decide the direction of motion of a visual stimulus. Neural activity in association areas appears to represent the time-integral of motion signals that are represented in the visual cortex. The results suggest a computational framework for understanding how the brain interprets sensory data to make decisions and guide behavior.
