Quantifying Structure in a Beating Continuum: The Challenge of Molecular and Microstructural Imaging in the Heart

Speaker: David Sosnovik , Harvard Medical School/MGH
Date: November 18 2010
Time: 2:30PM to 3:30PM

Relevant URL: Imaging of the heart can be performed at the molecular, microstructural and
whole organ scales. Whole organ imaging of the heart lends itself readily
to segmentation, automated analysis and quantification. Microstructural and
molecular imaging of the heart, however, do not. In this talk I will
discuss the challenges and potential solutions for acquiring and analyzing
molecular and microstructural images of the heart. Particular attention
will be paid to diffusion MRI tractography of myocardial fiber architecture
and molecular MRI of cardiomyocyte death.
