Abstract: In this talk I will summarize the work that my group has
carried out in the development of Simultaneous Localization and
Mapping (SLAM) systems for mapping indoor and outdoor environments
with a hand-held camera as the only sensor. I will describe the
fundamental algorithms that we have developed to deal with issues such
as large-scale and data association, their possibilities, and also
their limitations, and illustrate them with experiments carried out in
Zaragoza, Oxford, London (in collaboration with Oxford University and
Imperial College London), Sydney (in collaboration with the University
of Sydney), and in Milan, as part of the european RAWSEEDS project.
