COMPUTATIONAL RESEARCH in BOSTON SEMINAR
(Pizza and beverages provided at 12:15 PM outside Room 32-124.)
ABSTRACT:
1.Academic & Research Environments in Asia and Europe:
Grid and Cloud Implementations for HPC and Special Customer Sites
Academic and Research HPC environments in Asia and Europe underwent
significant changes in the past years. Widely established standards at
processors, node, interconnect and software level helped significantly to
ease cross-site and cross-country collaboration and load-balancing.
Examples of typical environments will be shown and future trends and new
challenges including the potential use of HPC Clouds will be discussed.
Very specialized customers sites with dedicated environments will also be
addressed.
2.Towards Peta-scale Systems:
The European PRACE Initiative and High-End System Trends.
The European Community maintains a “European Roadmap for Research
Infrastructures” and has recently established a high-end computing
initiative (PRACE) as part of that roadmap. It is seen as an essential
component to maintain Europe’s technological competitiveness, to keep
Europe attractive for researchers and to support innovative industrial
developments. Background, structure, planned system architectures and HP’s
concepts towards Peta-scale computing will be discussed
