I will describe a Riemannian model of multidimensional shape in
Euclidean space and algorithms to calculate shape geodesics, geodesic
distances, mean shapes, and to characterize regional morphological
similarity and difference. The model applies to a broad class of
shapes, but I will emphasize closed surfaces of genus zero in 3D space
because of their important role in neuroimaging. Time permitting, I
will discuss an application to the development and comparison of
models of change in hippocampal anatomy due to atrophy in normal aging
and dementia.
