The Bluegrass research project is exploring how a 3D virtual world can provide distributed software teams with some of the benefits of being co-located. In this talk we will demonstrate our prototype, which is embedded in a collaborative software development environment. We will highlight how this prototype complements the environment's capabilities with collaborative visualizations, meeting support, and socialization tools. Then we will discuss our lessons learned and our next research directions.
Speaker Bios:
Li-Te Cheng is a researcher at the Collaborative User Experience Group at IBM in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is currently working on a web-based virtual worlds project. He is interested in transforming programming-centric software development environments into social, collaborative spaces for software developers. His research interests include computer-supported cooperative work, human-computer interaction, software engineering, and virtual reality.
Steven Rohall is a Senior Technical Staff Member in IBM Research. He is currently working on web-based virtual worlds to support business applications. His past work included visualizations for electronic mail, "casual" information displays, alternative viewers for Notes, and mobile computing applications.
