Gary Urton is an expert in studying the khipu, which were the record-keeping and conjectured writing system of the Inkas. He has written several books and papers about khipu, in addition to transcribing many of the world's khipu into a public database. Prof. Urton will speak about his many findings and theories related to the khipu, including the recently discovered signing system and his binary coding theory.

This talk is part of IAP class 6.096, Knot Language: Recreating Inca Quipu/Khipu, co-organized by Erik Demaine, Martin Demaine, and Jean-Jacques Quisquater. All are welcome to attend the talk.
